The France-Florida Research Institute (FFRI) presents Night of Ideas at The Historic Thomas Center in downtown Gainesville.  In accordance with the 2025 theme of Common Ground and as part of the FFRI series on Environmental Humanities in the French and Francophone World, this annual Night of Ideas will address the theme of water as a common good.

Beginning with a concert of French classical music (Flautist Christine Alicot accompanied by pianist Carlos Beltran) and readings of French poetry (by UF students and members of our local Alliance française) inspired by the natural world, we will continue with a roundtable discussion of water with experts on the springs of North Central Florida and the Gulf that borders much of our state as well as experts on water in Europe and Africa.

The 2025 Night of Ideas/ Nuit des Idées is sponsored by the France-Florida Research Institute at the University of Florida and is co-sponsored by The Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida.
