Degnis Bofill

Performance

Degnis Bofill is a Cuban percussionist, vocalist, educator and composer. He won a Latin Grammy for the album Ancestros Sinfónico in the category of Best Folk Album with the group Síntesis in 2022. Degnis leads his own ensemble, Golpes Libres, which blends traditional Afro-Cuban music and modern jazz.

Graduated from the José María Ochoa Conservatory in the specialty of Instrumentalist-Teacher of Symphonic and Popular Cuban Percussion and Ensemble Practice. Throughout his artistic career he has played with artists such as: Maykel Blanco y Salsa Mayor, Enrique Alvares y su Charanga Latina, Maikel Dinza y Soneros de la Juventud, José Portillo y Cauce, Leyanis Valdes, Jessi Valdes, Alexis Boch y Proyecto de Jazz Cubano, Cucu Diamante among others.

Sonny Troupé & Julian Babou 

Performance

Sonny Troupé and Julian Babou are currently residents of the Villa Albertine. They will give a musical performance highlighting Afro and Caribbean rhythms with traditional percussions Kayamb and Ka Drum.

A graduate of the Dante Agostini Drum School, Sonny Troupé has released four albums, toured, and recorded music extensively throughout his career. Some of his collaborations include projects with Christian Laviso, Jacques Schwartz-Bart, Lisa Simone, Kenny Garrett, and Yosuke Onuma. He teaches and hosts a variety of masterclasses. 

Julian Babou teaches at the Ecole Music-Halle in Toulouse. He is the founder of Tournefeuille, a Réunionese orchestra of young people with disabilities, and he has taken part in a Creole opera. He also works as a musician for RFO-TV and has recorded with Françoise Guimbert, Magyd Cherfi, and Francis Lassus, among others.
