Outside the lines, beyond the small talk and social masks, there is a deeper life. Freely inspired by the book “Ceci n’est pas une ville” by French writer Laure Murat, this LA-based artist duo explores an innovative vocabulary of movement. From the blessing of the palm trees, the language of contact dance and the rhythm of Cuban folkloric and traditional dances, a Performance was born, that aims to sow heart in the encounters.
The evening will feature a performative workshop of Interactive Contact Dance led by Scot Hendricks, with accompanying live music by Birdy Bouchard, Faez Shahrezaei, and Peter Jacobson.
Contact improvisation is a form of improvised partner dancing that has been developing internationally since 1972. It involves the exploration of one’s body in relationship to others by using the fundamentals of sharing weight, touch, and movement awareness. It has evolved into a broad global community of social dancing around “jams” characterized by their welcoming attitude towards newcomers to dance, as well as seasoned practitioners, and is often found overlapping with enthusiastic dance communities.
