The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden recently installed two monumental artworks in its Sculpture Garden: a striking figure with five faces entitled “We Come in Peace” by Pakistani-American sculptor Huma Bhabha; and an ode to the twin towers (“Double Candle”) by American artist Sterling Ruby. These new acquisitions joined Jeff Koons’s “Kiepenkerl” sculpture in the garden. Discussions with Hirshhorn Director Melissa Chiu and artists Bhabha, Ruby and Koons and an improvisational performance by cellist David Schulman offer an opportunity to explore works in the Museum’s Sculpture Garden from different perspectives and through the lens of the Night of Ideas theme: “closing the distance.”
